Sony Ericsson is after a piece of the mobile e-mail action with the launch of the M600i. A daintier rival of the RIM Blackberry and Palm Treo, this business smartphone sports two letters per key rather than a full thumbpad and gets style points for coming in both black and white. It features high speed 3G internet access, for downloading large files and streaming audio and video, and an RSS reader for news updates.

The scaled-down keypad might make for slower typing, but those who travel light will appreciate the slim design and sizable screen. Based on the Symbian OS platform, road warriors can synchronise their calendar and contacts, open e-mail attachments, edit documents and use the phone with a host of push e-mail software. Bluetooth, 80MB of storage and a memory expansion slot are also on board. The M600i is slated to go on sale in June.
