Talking of Perrier, evidence of the growing influence of procurement professionals on cost-conscious in-house legal departments was recently provided by one City partner, who regaled The Diary with a story of lunch with one general counsel client not exactly known for her diurnal drinking or bouts of Epicurean excess.

Undeterred by the client’s reputation for sobriety, the partner spied on the menu a particularly fine bottle of vintage refreshment to see them through the lunch – and perhaps the rest of the afternoon too.
