Commercial partners have welcomed moves by the Law Society to cut its levy on the profession as research shows that one in two City lawyers would not sign up to Chancery Lane as their main representative body.
The latest Legal Week/ EJ Legal Big Question survey finds that many commercial lawyers believe the cost of the practising certificate is too high – with 37% of respondents arguing the current cost of £1,020 is ‘far too expensive’. A further 29% argued that the certificate, the society’s main source of revenue, was ‘a little’ too expensive, while 28% said it was ‘about right’.
