Laws firms have long recognised the importance of sport as a business area with particular legal issues of its own. A few years ago, there was a rush to form specialist sports practices within law firms, but there are now only half a dozen or so firms with substantial sports practices.

A critical strand of the development of the sports practice at Addleshaw Goddard, which works primarily with clubs and governing bodies, has been a secondment programme involving some of the group’s major clients.
