The City of London has unveiled plans to build a Wi-Fi network across the Square Mile in partnership with The Cloud, a provider of wireless hotspots across Europe. It plans to use ‘street furniture’ such as lamp posts and street signs to spread the signal.

A comprehensive Wi-Fi network will bolster the City’s status as a global business and financial centre. It will give busy professionals high-speed access to the internet, e-mail, instant messaging and the ability to place VOIP calls using laptops and handheld devices. The City expects the project to be completed within six months.
