The Spanish legal profession is facing arguably its most dramatic period of change in recent memory. Current reforms promise to further shake up the country’s status as a European legal hub and test the mettle of the country’s biggest firms. Their responses to these reforms will have a huge impact on the Spanish legal market for decades to come.

During the past few years, the growth of law firms in Spain has been comfortably outpacing European neighbours and, in 2005, the top 50 firms billed more than 1bn (£684m) between them. This may seem like small fry in comparison with the bulkier UK and German markets, but it represents year-on-year, double-digit spurts.
