Simmons & Simmons has increased its trainee maintenance grants to £7,500, matching the rate offered by US firms in London and becoming the highest-paying City firm for students.

The move, which will take effect from 1 September, will see Simmons raise the amount it awards its London-based Legal Practice Course (LPC) students from £5,000 to £7,500 – £500 more than the amount offered by magic circle firms Allen & Overy (A&O), Clifford Chance (CC) and Linklaters. Freshfields Bruckhaus Deringer pays £7,250 and Slaughter and May pays £7,450.
