The Chancellor, Gordon Brown, has announced a pivotal inquiry into intellectual property (IP) rights, commissioning Andrew Gowers, former editor of the Financial Times, to lead the review. The report, due in autumn 2006, is a step towards fulfilling the Government’s manifesto commitment to ‘modernise copyright and other forms of IP rights so that they are appropriate for the digital age’.
