The Bar Council has installed Ruth Evans, the former chief executive of the National Consumer Council, as the inaugural chair of its new regulatory body, The Bar Standards Board. Evans was selected by an independent panel to head up the board, which will police barristers in line with Sir David Clementi’s package of legal service reforms. Evans will front the 15-member body, of which seven will be lay members, from 1 January, 2006
