Law firms face a surge in personal injury-related professional claims in the wake of the collapse of The Accident Group (TAG), as it emerges that many UK practices failed to renew their professional indemnity cover before the cut-off date on 1 October.

Personal injury saw the largest share of claims in the year ending August 2005, accounting for nearly a fifth of notifications issued to firms, according to research this month by insurance giant Alexander Forbes. Insurers have warned that the impact from TAG will continue to hit firms during 2006.
