Jones Day and Garrigues have secured the lead roles on France Telecom’s 6.4bn (£4.4bn) purchase of Spanish mobile phone operator Amena as advisers scramble to take advantage of the current revival in cross-border European M&A work.

The deal sees France Telecom buy 80% of the stock of Barcelona-based Amena for 6.4bn in cash from holding company Grupo Auna, which is made up of main shareholders Banco Santander Central Hispano, Endesa and Union Fenosa.
