Sergio Erede – one of Italy’s most distinguished lawyers and name partner at Slaughter and May ally Bonelli Erede Pappalardo – has been plunged into the Parmalat scandal, after prosecutors named him in a pre-trial motion.

Italian prosecutors investigating bankruptcy and company law violations at the conglomerate last week included Erede among 71 individuals targeted in a pre-trial motion relating to allegations of bankruptcy fraud, violations of accounting rules and conspiracy. Erede acted as an independent non-executive director to parent company Parmalat Finanziaria between 1990 and 2000.
