Since 2003, the Irish Competition Authority (CA) has had exclusive jurisdiction to review mergers and acquisitions which fall within the terms of the Irish Competition Act 2002.
Prior to 2003, the regulator in Ireland was the Minister for Enterprise, Trade and Employment. In 2002 it was decided to transfer jurisdiction over mergers (a key move for any economy) to an independent regulator, the CA.
