In a bid to increase competition among the country’s estimated 10,000 lawyers, the Law Society of Scotland is set to ditch its tariff of recommended legal fees.
Amid fears the co-ordination of legal fees could constitute a breach of European competition law, the professional body has found itself under increasing pressure from the Office of Fair Trading to scrap the tariff, which includes a recommended hourly rate.
