Following a landmark ‘test case’ in which the House of Lords handed down judgment on 3 February, barristers across the board can now heave a huge sigh of relief that in advice given to clients in high-pressure situations outside of court, they will not have to give detailed reasoning for that advice.

The court found that Jacqueline Perry of 2 Temple Gardens was not negligent in advice given to her client ‘at the doors of court’, contrary to a Court of Appeal ruling.
