Lovells alight
In a move that surprised many in the supposedly saturated Madrid market, in March 2003 Lovells became the latest Anglo-Saxon firm to launch a Madrid arm, with the hire of Cuatrecasas M&A partner Jose Maria Balana de Eguia.
Despite its maturity, the Spanish legal market has remained an attractive one for expansionary law firms. But although some areas of work are growing, competition between domestic and international firms remains ferocious. Caroline Grimshaw reports
