While a sizeable insolvency team was this month quitting Clifford Chance for Kaye Scholer, becoming the latest in an increasingly lengthy line of New York partners to leave the London giant, a more interesting team move was to be found on the US’ other coast.

The beneficiary was Orrick Herrington & Sutcliffe, which bagged five partners from Bay Area rival Heller Ehrman White & McAuliffe. The interest lies less in the firm from which the group moved and more in the legacy practice of which four of the five were founding partners, one Venture Law Group (VLG).
