Substantial numbers of business lawyers have rejected Sir David Clementi’s proposals to overhaul the structure of UK law firms, according to a new survey that suggests it will be harder than expected to win support from the top firms for his pro-market reforms.

The latest Legal Week/ EJ Legal Big Question polled more than 100 senior lawyers. It found that 41% of respondents did not support key proposals by Clementi to create legal disciplinary practices (LDPs), which would open up law firm ownership to non-lawyers.
