Over the past two years, the ‘portal’ has burst on to the legal technology scene. Vendors, hoping it will become the next ‘killer application’, have been locked into a battle for the virtual desktop.
However, while the technology has moved on, the portal’s key purpose has been lost sight of. In this case study, we look at the state of portal applications, what they do – and, importantly, don’t do – for the business, and what the next steps must be for portal developers. Finally, we take a brief overview of Dundas & Wilson’s Hummingbird portal project.
