Contrary to what some might think, the launch of the new protocol by the South West Renewable Energy Agency (Regen SW) is more than just a guide to good public consultation. It is a veritable milestone. Behind the initiative lies a fusion of the UK’s most pressing long-term political goal – the response to climate change – and the reality that the southwest continues to be at the forefront of the use of wind energy to answer that need.

The Government Office for the Southwest pump-primed the funding to bring together bodies from the full spectrum of developers and decision makers – including the South West Local Government Association, South West Royal Town Planning Institute and the British Wind Energy Association – to shape the protocol.
