Very few law firms would consider handing over their main back-office functions to an outsourcer. Or their document management system, for that matter. But when it comes to litigation, there may be less of a desire to keep things in-house.

“Our view is that there are an increasing number of opportunities to outsource core IT services – and it is broadening now,” says Kevin Connell, head of IT at Masons. The firm has not seen fit to out-source document production – not yet, anyway. But three years ago it began to outsource all of its network services, to great effect, and more recently Masons has outsourced litigation support.
