Having attended the Legal IT Forum regularly since its inception, I am convinced that there is no better opportunity to identify new legal technology directions, take stock of progress, share tales of successes and challenges and generally have fun. This conference is legendary across the globe for bringing together the people who are leading the change in the delivery of legal services.

Five years ago, interest in the potential impact of technology on legal services was immense. Today, many regard technology as less significant. This is not an unusual development as there is generally an over-reaction to new technology followed by a fall-off in interest (the Gartner Curve effect). It does not mean that innovation due to technology has ceased, merely that it has moved into the background and is now progressing without the media hype. Many innovations are now considered part of the business. The most obvious example of this is e-mail, which is now an indispensable part of everyone’s working day. Mobile technologies that were recently leading edge are becoming mainstream and little-by-little work practices are changing.
