Barry Levin has been in the hot seat at San Francisco-based firm Heller Ehrman White & McAuliffe for almost six years. It has been a period of dramatic expansion for the firm, symbolised by its takeover of the iconic West Coast firm the Venture Law Group (VLG) last year – a deal that the firm stole from under the nose of VLG’s former ally Orrick Herrington & Sutcliffe.
The deal, along with a series of other acquisitions, has helped propel the San Francisco-based firm up Legal Week’s US law firm league table so that it currently lies in 35th place.
