A new bill has been passed by the US House of Representatives that would make it mandatory for judges to fine trial lawyers for bringing “frivolous cases” in the latest controversial attempt to curb class action litigation.
The Lawsuit Abuse Reduction Act was passed on 9 September by 228 votes to 165 and includes new proposals that would strengthen powers to censure lawyers who bring frivolous cases.
