Ashurst has sealed its first work for Terra Firma Capital Partners, advising the private equity house on the double acquisition of cinema chains, Odeon Cinemas and United Cinemas International (UCI).
Terra Firma bought Odeon from a group of investors, including WestLB and the Entertainment Group for an estimated £400m. It acquired UCI from Vivendi Universal and Viacom for an estimated £182m. The two deals make Terra Firma the UK’s leading cinema owner, holding nearly 40% of the market based on box office.
