Fewer than half of commercial lawyers believe the Human Rights Act (HRA) has been a success, according to a new poll that finds a majority of partners also believe the legislation has fuelled a compensation
culture.

In the latest Legal Week/EJ Legal Big Question survey of more than 100 leading commercial lawyers, 51% rated the Act, which incorporated the European Convention on Human Rights into UK law, as either ‘very unsuccessful’ or ‘quite unsuccessful’.
Just 2% of respondents said the four-year old Act had been ‘very successful’, while 47% suggested it had been ‘quite successful’.
