The Department for Constitutional Affairs (DCA) has become one of the main victims of Chancellor Gordon Brown’s civil service redundancy programme with more than 1,000 of its civil servants facing the axe.

A total of 1,100 members of staff are to lose their jobs, 800 of whom are expected to come from the court service. The rest will come from the DCA headquarters in Victoria Street, central London. The projected cuts come as part of the Treasury’s spending review, announced on 12 July.
