According to research carried out last year by the University of California, every year 800MB of data, equivalent to approximately 160,000 sheets of paper, is produced and stored for every man, woman and child on the planet.

Of this, 92% is stored on electronic media. In the business world, approximately 90% of documents are created, and stored, electronically – by word processors, e-mail, in databases and through a variety of devices, from personal computers and servers to personal digital assistants (PDAs) and even computer printers, photocopiers and fax machines, indeed, anything with a memory.
