The development of e-billing in the UK market has been tortuously slow, but is last month’s release of the a new data standard to facilitate the transfer of financial information between law firms and their clients a sign that electronic billing is finally set for take-off?

The standard, based on the Legal Electronic Data Exchange 1998B Standard (LEDES) developed by PricewaterhouseCoopers (PwC) in the US, has been developed by a team from the Legal IT Innovators Group (LITIG) led by Wragge & Co’s head of strategic development Derek Southall and Andrew Dey, projects and operations manager of the Barclays Bank legal function.
