The last few months have seen some interesting developments in the United Kingdom and the United States for the music industry and copyrighting. In the UK, the record labels took an aggressive stance against parallel imports. At the same time in the US, the music industry is pursuing a series of ‘post-Napster’ actions over peer-to-peer (P2P) file sharing, and new battle lines have been drawn.

In what can be described as a victory for the UK music industry, a settlement was reached in January 2004 between the British Phonographic Industry (BPI) and CD Wow! CD Wow!, a Hong Kong-based online retailer, was distributing CDs containing sound recordings of well-known popular artists to consumers in the UK.
