While some practices already had organically developed branch offices in other jurisdictions, the mergers were the first major tie-ups between leading law firms in offshore jurisdictions. The process began in February last year when Jersey law firm Olsens announced that it was to merge with Guernsey’s leading law firm Carey Langlois, creating the 120-lawyer Carey Olsen.
