Women in the Law – Strategic Career Management
By Elizabeth Cruickshank
Publisher: Law Society Publishing
Price: £29.95
The Law Society refused to admit women as solicitors until 1919, and to the Reading Room until 1974. It was only in 1995 that women were allowed to address court wearing trousers. For years there have been more women than men qualifying as solicitors, and about equal numbers of each qualify as barristers. But as careers progress, the balance shifts dramatically – in the upper tiers of both sides of the profession, women are drastically under-represented.
