Ireland is developing a growing presence in the life sciences and biotechnology sectors with a number of significant inward-investment projects. Some interesting indigenous companies are also emerging.
Over the last three decades, Ireland has attracted sizeable inward investment in the pharmaceutical and fine chemical industries, with companies such as Pfizer, Eli Lilly, Abbott Laboratories, Novartis and GlaxoSmithKline all having operations there. Companies in these sectors represent over 25% of Ireland’s total exports and make the nation one of the leading exporters of pharmaceuticals and fine chemicals.
