Some firms are bigger than others. That is the inescapable conclusion of Legal Week Global‘s pioneering survey of 100 independent firms in mainland Europe.

In fact, the term ‘independent’ must be used with caution. By independent we mean ‘not part of a firm with a large number of offices outside its home jurisdiction’. We certainly do not mean to use the term independent in the wider sense. The Clifford Chances and Latham & Watkins’ of this world would rightly balk at any suggestion they are any less able to think for themselves than a three-partner boutique in Riga.
