The Spanish giant Uria & Menendez looms large in Iberia, dominating its home market while enjoying a place in the elite best friends network of Slaughter and May, Davis Polk, Hengeler Mueller, Bonelli Erede Pappalardo and Bredin Prat. The firm itself has four offices in Spain, as well as offices in Brussels, Lisbon, London and New York.

Managing partner Rodrigo Uria describes the firm as regional rather than international – it was the first foreign firm to practice local law in Lisbon, as part of its bid to wrap up the Iberian market. It is also targeting Latin America as a growth area, and has associated offices in Buenos Aires, Lima, Mexico City and Santiago de Chile. In Sao Paolo, the firm has its own office, which advises on Spanish and EU law, as well as an associated office to advise on Brazilian law.
