The Office of Fair Trading (OFT) is threatening to take legal action against the Law Society if it does not press ahead with its so-called ‘Tesco law’ reforms at a council meeting today (16 October).

The OFT has written to Chancery Lane to warn it that it is investigating a complaint from “a major estate agency chain” that the society’s ban on solicitors either sharing fees with non-solicitors or paying referral fees to them breaches UK competition law.
