SJ Berwin has embarked on a hunt for a potential merger with a US practice amid indications from partners at the top 20 London firm that a transatlantic tie-up has rapidly become a serious strategic aim.
The firm has conceded to Legal Week Global that it has held informal talks with six US firms since August, with top 10 US giant Sidley Austin Brown & Wood emerging as one candidate.
