The Law Society is facing the threat of seven-figure fines for missed complaints handling targets, the Government has indicated, after unveiling plans to bring Chancery Lane’s largest regulatory division under an independent commissioner.
The newly created role will upgrade the powers of the Legal Services Ombudsman, handing the office a brief to set targets for the society’s complaints handling division.
