Law may be turning into a business spanning greatly differing cultures and traditions, but the profession’s cross-border capacity for hubris can still be counted on to remind everyone how similar lawyers really are.

Examples of such tendencies can currently be seen on both sides of the Atlantic, with the US profession spinning like a top over the American Bar Association’s (ABA) recent overhaul of its model conduct rules, while in the UK, the Bar Council of England and Wales is desperately trying to prevent the antiquated title of Queen’s Counsel from being abolished.
