The high-profile merger bid between California giants Orrick Herrington & Sutcliffe and Cooley Godward has collapsed, dashing what promised to be the largest West Coast tie-up in US legal history.
The talks broke off on 23 July, with management at both firms claiming that the decision to split was mutual, despite earlier reports that a merger deal could have been finalised by the end of July.
