EvershedsLawyers will have to pay the Law Society more than £400 a head extra this year in a move that will cost larger firms almost £1m more than last year, following the Law Society’s decision to hike up the practising certificate and the annual contribution to the compensation fund.

At a Law Society Council meeting earlier this month (16-17 July) members voted to increase the cost of the practising certificate for 2003-04 from £700 to £790 and the annual contribution to the compensation fund during the same period from £500 to £824.
