The Government looks set to retain a major role in appointing judges but favours abolishing the historic title of QC, the Lord Chancellor Lord Falconer confirmed today, as the Government issued detailed proposals fleshing out last month’s controversial constitutional reforms.

The news comes in a series of consultation papers from the Department of Constitutional Affairs (DCA), which sets out the Government’s negotiating position for implementing the justice reforms announced in Downing Street’s Cabinet reshuffle of 12 June.
