Solicitors look set to break the Bar’s traditional stranglehold on judicial appointments under plans from the new Lord Chancellor Lord Falconer to develop a career judiciary drawing on a wider – and younger – pool of candidates for the bench.
Appearing on Monday (30 June) before the Lord Chancellor’s Department parliamentary select committee for the first time since he took up the post of Lord Chancellor and Secretary of State for Constitutional Affairs, Falconer gave his fullest account yet of how he plans to take forward the Government’s reform programme.
