“In 1999 we talked to McKinsey Consultants about what we should do about the future,” says one senior German partner whose firm eventually merged with a top UK practice.
“They analysed the firm, gave us 10 modernising principles to follow and then said we had two choices: we could try and do it on our own, or we could just merge with an Anglo-Saxon firm. We soon decided it was better to merge.”
