Irish law firms are bracing themselves for leaner times as the heady days of the Celtic Tiger draw to a close. “There is less corporate activity, less volume, but most firms have had a good year,” says Ronan Maloney, managing partner of McCann Fitzgerald.

The year ahead looks set to be more difficult. “Retrenchment and consolidation is the message. Business will be slow for the next few months as we cannot be immune to what is happening in the rest of the world,” says Eugene McCague, managing partner of Arthur Cox.
