The need for a portal at Bermuda-based firm Appleby Spurling & Kempe (AS&K) goes back many years, well before portals became fashionable. Pathfinder emerged from the need for a centralised, web-enabled tool that could integrate and simplify access to disparate information sources, using a familiar interface and a single sign-on.
If only we knew then what we know now. The problem is not lack of information. It is the inability to access what is already there, on a ‘just-in-time’ basis, without having to waste time and interrupt work rhythms in order to get to it.
