The Lord Chancellor, Lord Irvine, has today (29 April) signalled the likely demise of the Silk system – telling the latest batch of QCs that they may be the last.
Speaking at the ceremony for the presentation of the Silk awards at Parliament earlier today, Irvine conceded that it may no longer be appropriate for the state to award a legal quality mark.
