European Commission (EC) competition chief Mario Monti has pledged to break down unnecessary regulation of lawyers as part of a sweeping review aimed at bolstering cross-border competition in the EU professional services market.
Delivering a key speech to the German Bar Council last Friday (21 March) Monti, the Competition Commissioner, told an audience of local lawyers that excessive regulation was hampering the provision of legal services in Europe.
