The trendiest and most talked-about area of IT at the moment is workflow technologies. Many of the buzzwords – business process automation, matter management, workflow automation and so on – can apply equally to the bespoke systems that large firms are designing based on platforms and toolkits such as MetaStorm, as well as to the ‘traditional’ legal case management systems on display at trade shows around the country. Indeed it is far from clear where one could insert a dividing line between the two.
