Texas-giant Akin Gump Strauss Hauer & Feld has become the first firm to swoop on disintegrating tech leader Brobeck Phleger & Harrison after securing a deal to take on the San Francisco firm’s respected 18-lawyer Austin-based litigation team.

The deal will see Brobecks’ former head of litigation Steven Zager, whose departure was announced last week, bringing the vast bulk of the Austin office’s securities and commercial litigation practice with him, including former regional managing partner Edward Fernandes.
